The Challenge: When a legacy boiler controller fails and is deemed beyond economical repair, facilities face the immediate threat of critical downtime. In this instance, a client required an urgent, cost-effective replacement to restore control over their commercial oil-fired boiler system before facility temperatures dropped.
The S&T Solution: To minimize disruption, S&T Controls designed, manufactured, and installed this bespoke boiler control panel within a highly accelerated timeframe. Rather than specifying an overly complex and expensive off-the-shelf commercial unit, we engineered a targeted, budget-friendly solution tailored exactly to the client’s mechanical setup.
The new panel oversees two active oil-fired boilers (with built-in switchgear for a future third spare) and primary circulation pumps. The intelligence of the system is driven by a highly reliable Siemens LOGO! logic module, which introduced several modern efficiency features that the obsolete controller lacked:
Weather Compensation: The system automatically adjusts the heating output based on real-time external temperatures, significantly optimizing fuel efficiency.
Intelligent Boiler Cascading: The controller sequences the boilers, bringing the second unit online only during peak demand and alternating duty cycles to balance mechanical wear and tear.
Precision Time Control: Ensures the heating plant operates strictly on tailored facility schedules.
Built for the Operator: While the Siemens LOGO! handles the complex automation, the panel fascia was designed for ultimate user-friendliness. We included robust Auto/Off/Hand rotary switches for every individual boiler and pump, ensuring that maintenance teams always have immediate, manual override control during servicing.
