Bespoke Access Control Timer
Access Control Security Systems Custom Electronics Facility Management Automated Timers
The Challenge: Electronic access control systems provide excellent security, but they can be highly inconvenient during open events, such as community parties or business open days. To allow guests in without a code, users often resort to physically propping doors open. This practice not only damages expensive fire doors but completely compromises the building’s security, especially if the door is forgotten and left open after the event concludes.
The S&T Solution: A local village hall approached S&T Controls with this exact problem. In response, we designed and manufactured a bespoke “Door Unlock Timer” that integrates seamlessly with their existing electronic locking infrastructure.
Rather than just a simple override switch, we built intelligent logic into the system:
Authorized Activation: The unit actively monitors the access control system. It ignores the internal “Request to Exit” button and only activates when it verifies that a user has entered a valid PIN or fob on the external reader. This ensures only authorized key-holders can initiate the open-door period.
Timed Release: Once authorized, the user can set the timer to release the electronic lock for a specific duration (up to 1 hour).
Auto-Secure: When the timer expires, the system automatically reinstates the electronic lock, ensuring the building is never accidentally left unsecured overnight.
Built for the Environment: The system is housed in a rugged, tamper-resistant enclosure suitable for public areas. As a value-add, we custom-designed and printed the front fascia to feature both the client’s logo and intuitive user instructions, alongside an LCD display and secure keypad.
The Result: A robust, automated solution that eliminates the need to prop doors open, providing convenience for event organizers and guaranteed peace of mind for facility managers.
